As
news of the new school in Juma
spread to nearby villages, other communities began to
ask the Project Team for similar support. That is when
the village of Kantimbanye came to their attention.
Volunteers
in Kantimbanye -- villagers who felt the urge to
improve their living -- had started some development
activities without outside assistance. A network of
volunteers in Kantimbanye had been educating over 200
orphans, looking after lonely and sick people, and planting
food in community gardens for the most needy in their
village. The Project Team realized that supporting the
efforts of these self-need-driven people could bring
even broader positive changes for the community than
in Juma where people were more of passive recipients
of our help.
The
Project Team informed Slotland.com about this community
and they agreed to extend their support to the people
in Kantimbanye village.
The
intensive cooperation with the villagers from Kantimbanye
led the Project Team towards the idea of establishing
an organization that would support rural groups in Malawi
that have, by themselves, shown a strong effort for
their own development and prooven they are able to sustain
their programs. Thus boNGO came into being.
boNGO
is an acronym standing for “based on Need-driven Grassroots
Ownership“. Slotland.com is the Platinum sponzor of

How
boNGO Worldwide Was Created
boNGO
Worldwide, NFP, is a Malawian non-governmental, non-profit
organization established in 2007 by four volunteers
-- the Project Team members from the USA, Switzerland,
Czech Republic, and Malawi.
Intense
cooperation with two very different rural communites
led the Project Team towards the realization that one
of the most important factors when implementing positive
and sustainable development is choosing the right partner.
When
the Project Team decided to form a new NGO, it was clear
what kind of communities they should work with -- villages
that yern for their own transformation, have their own
visions, and are actively trying to achieve them.
